Bittersweet Brewing Company

Book Your Stay

This small, family-owned brewery opened in 2017, tucked within a small row of businesses off Oak Park Road in Arroyo Grande. (In fact, Bittersweet Brewing Company sits just two doors down from popular sandwich spot Surfside Deli.) But the origins of the brewery start in 2008, when a father and son started exploring making craft beer together in their garage. Today, they pour a wide range of their own beers from several taps at their hidden gem of a brewery. Beer styles run the gamut, from the Dormie Blonde Ale to the Two Elephants Double IPA and Catching Crows Imperial Stout. Fans of lighter beers will like the Avila de Saison, an easy-drinking brew made with blood orange, honey, and lemon zest. The Lopez Lager is also a refreshing option for a warm day — even better if it’s spent on Lopez Lake, right around the corner!

The brewers at Bittersweet Brewing Company attempt to include at least one local ingredient in each of their beers. They also use clever names of local spots and fun artwork and labels to match. For instance, the Dunite Hefeweizen refers to the Bohemian group of artists, writers, and free thinkers who built a lean-to community in the Oceano Dunes. Visit the inspirational local sites and then come by Bittersweet Brewing Company to taste the beers. The brewery also offers a kettle sour made with local fruit, as well as house-made low-ABV cherry-limeade hard seltzer. The brewery doesn’t offer food or non-alcoholic options, but they encourage visitors to bring their own or purchase them from Surfside Deli. The brewery rotates through several taps, depending on what they have available fresh at the moment. Come in to watch the game on their flat-screen TV and grab a pint, or bring 16-ounce cans and 32-ounce and 64-ounce growlers home.
