Coastal Discovery & Stewardship Celebration
The 10 destinations along California’s Highway 1 Discovery Route (H1DR) in SLO CAL from Ragged Point and Cambria to Avila Beach and Oceano are serious when it comes to the annual Coastal Discovery & Stewardship Celebration. Coastal SLO CAL welcomes visitors to immerse themselves in the local marine culture, coastal heritage and natural attractions along the iconic CA Highway 1 Discovery Route through a series of events and activities.
Enjoy special marine focused events, unique wine and food tastings and festival, stewardship travel activities, and Wildlife Viewing Tips all while adding meaning and connecting deeper to the nature and culture of our area. “Throughout the annual Coastal Discovery & Stewardship Celebration guests are invited to explore marine life from abalone to elephant seals, learn about nature preserves, participate in fun citizen science activities, and enjoy the many seaside hikes found on the Central Coast,” says Katie Sturtevant, Stewardship Travel Director. “There are unique signature events like Sharks After Dark at the Central Coast Aquarium, free films at Hearst Castle Theater and almost 40 must-do activities the whole family will enjoy.”
We are excited to be featuring the film Disneynature Oceans at the historic Hearst Castle Theater for six consecutive Saturdays during the celebration. This is a spectacular story about remarkable creatures under the sea. Stunning images await viewers as they journey into the depths of a wonderland filled with mystery, beauty and power. It’s an unprecedented look at deep-water creatures through their own eyes. Incredible state-of-the-art underwater filmmaking will take your breath away as you migrate with whales, swim alongside a great white shark and race with dolphins at play. Filled with adventure, comedy and drama, Oceans is a fascinating and thought-provoking experience you will not soon forget.
